OUR HISTORY
NED Racers was established by a group of zealous individuals in 2016 with an aim to foster and promote NED's technical talent on international platforms. Formula Student competition challenges students all around the world to conceive design and fabricate a small formula type racing car. This was not the first time that a group of students were taking the initiative to build a racecar for these competitions but the aim of NED Racers was to build one technically sound machine that would go on to become a legacy for the institution all around the world.
Through various screening stages, a 22 member team was formed under the advisory of Dr. Aqeel Ahmed. The team was subdivided into different departments to handle different aspects of manufacturing and marketing the car and to this day continues to work in the same manner
The team might have started working from scratch but the knowledge and experience of a Formula SAE competition was present in the form of Mr. Hassaan Zubairi. NED Racers was kicked off and led by Mr. Hassaan Zubairi (IM Department, Batch 2013-14) who had participated in Formula SAE Italy with NED Formula Racing in 2016. After Mr. Zubairi graduated from the university, the team was left in the capable hands of Mr. Waqas Siddiqui in September 2017. Having served as a volunteer in NED Formula Racing and as Powertrain Head in NED Racers, Mr. Waqas Siddiqui (Mechanical Department, Batch 2014-15) took over as Team Leader and led the team to its participation in Formula North 2018. As the academic year 2017-18 came to an end, a change in leadership was in order. Leadership has now been passed on to Mr. Ramiz Masroor who aimed to take this team to its second participation in 2019. Mr. Ramiz Masroor (Electrical Department, Batch 2015-16) has previously served as a volunteer in NED Formula Racing and as Electronics Head in NED Racers.
NR X FORMULA NORTH 2018
NED Racers registered for Formula North Canada 2018 and continued to work diligently towards the newly set goal. The challenges faced this time around were similar but we managed to overcome them and from 31st May to 3rd June 2018, NED Racers participated in Formula North Canada 2018.
The learning experience at Formula North was second to none. We interacted with teams and judges from all over the world, gaining ideas and guidance from their experiences in Formula SAE competitions. Up against teams that have been participating in these competitions for over a decade, we secured a decent 27th place out of a total 32 teams. Considering the setback of the car being delivered after the second day of the competition, we would conclude this rank as under deserved. We believe we could have done better, and had ranked 3 or 4 places above had everything gone smoothly with the shipping.
Where we lost the opportunity to gain points in some key events, we made up for it by excelling through Technical Inspections. Now, Technical Inspections are what determine how technically sound the car has been built and this is the step where most first year teams fail at. Clearing these inspections was our major goal for Formula North 2018 and our competence was proved when we achieved it. NED Racers was given a Special Mention at the Closing Ceremony of Formula North 2018 for clearing Technical Inspections as a first year car.
NR X FSAE AUSTRALASIA 2020
In 2020, the NED Racers team from NED University of Engineering and Technology showcased their prowess in the Formula Student Australasia competition with their car, the NR20c. Despite the challenges posed by the event being held online due to the global pandemic, the team demonstrated exceptional engineering and strategic acumen. Competing in the internal combustion (IC) engine category, the NR20c, a testament to their innovative design and technical expertise, secured an impressive 4th position. This achievement highlighted the team's resilience and ability to adapt to the unique demands of a virtual competition environment, cementing their reputation as formidable contenders in the international formula student arena.
NR X PAPS 2023 X TECHNOFEST
At the Pakistan Auto Show (PAPS) 2023, NED Racers made a remarkable impression with the unveiling of their new car, the NR22c. The team’s innovative design and engineering prowess were on full display, attracting significant attention from industry experts and enthusiasts alike. During the event, the NED Racers had the privilege of meeting Suneel Sarfaraz Munj, the CEO of Pakwheels. Suneel’s comments were positive, praising the team’s efforts and the car’s design. However, he highlighted the importance of making the engine from scratch to further elevate their engineering capabilities. In a gesture of camaraderie and appreciation, the team presented him with an NR shirt, marking a memorable highlight of their participation in the prestigious auto show.
